Carambolim Village Panchayat

Carambolim is a village in Ilhas, Carambolim is also known as Karmali - THE ISLE OF PADDY.

Carambolim is a beautiful village that lies 14kms from Panajim and 2 kms from Old Goa. It is also known as Karmali and is famous Carambolim Lake “Karmallem Tallem”.

The people in Carambolim are very hardworking. There is a lake situated here in the village. It was a man made fresh water fresh water lake which was built to facilitate irrigation of paddy fields. It was named as the ‘Karmallem Tallem’ and is also known as the Carambolim Lake.

In the village, the Carambolim Lake is situated within the walking distance from the Karmali Railway Station. Its surface is sprinkled with water lilies and colourful exotic plants. It is the famous bird watching spot in Goa. The marshy land soon made it a heaven for various species of herbivorous birds, some of whom are resident and others are migratory.

Due to the rich ecology one can see a variety of birds flock here. It is Goa’s Important Bird and Biodiversity Area (IBA). The Carambolim Lake is known as one of the most interesting and picturesque wildlife preservation in Goa. In the surrounding of lake one can also see paddy fields, trees and Woodland in the area that makes the place very picturesque.

There is also a railway station in village which is third important station (after Pernem and Tivim) of Konkan railway in Goa. It is closest railway station to the state capital Panaji. Karmali railway station is also known as Karmali Railway station. One of the nearest sights to visit is Basilica of Bom Jesus Old Goa 2.3km from carambolim railway station.
